The Farmington area has numerous trails for hiking, mountain biking, off-roading, and horseback riding. One of Farmington’s community gems is the beautiful 8+ mile trail system along the Animas and San Juan rivers. The trail winds through Berg Park and Animas Park, where annual community events, such as River Fest, River Glow, and National Night Out, take place. The trails are also host to many runs/walks for local nonprofit organizations. The All Veterans Memorial and Riverside Nature Center are popular attractions along the trails. If you enjoy walking with a furry friend, you can stop by the Farmington Regional Animal Shelter at the east end of Animas Park and volunteer to walk a dog.

Farmington area lakes and rivers offer ample opportunities for fishing, kayaking, paddle boarding, canoeing, and rafting. Lake Farmington has become a treasured spot for locals to enjoy non-motorized watercraft, camping, swimming, and lounging in the sun. For anyone desiring faster watersports, Navajo Lake Marina is less than an hour away. Before you hit the marina, stop at Quality Waters to enjoy some world-class trout fishing.

Farmington’s brand-new pickleball court at Brookside Park will have you loving the fastest-growing sport in America. Our pickleball community welcomes newcomers with open arms. The Health and Human Performance Center at San Juan College hosts tournaments and offers pickleball lessons so you learn the fundamentals of the game before hitting the courts.

If you like a more leisurely activity, you can try the wildly popular sport of disc golf. There are several courses dispersed throughout city parks and one right here on the San Juan College campus. There are even tournaments hosted by local groups for your more competitive side. Disc golf is a sport you can enjoy with a group or on your own, and it’s a wonderful activity for families.

Golf enthusiasts love it here! We have three municipal golf courses in the area and one private course. Farmington is home to the newly remodeled Pinon Hills Golf Course, located next to San Juan College. Pinon Hills is a legend in the desert golf landscape and has been rated a Top Municipal Golf Course in the United States numerous times. If you’ve always wanted to try the sport, Civitan Golf Course is a par three course that’s perfect for beginners. They also have footgolf that’s loads of fun for group outings and families. 

Feel free to roam, explore, and play in the 19,000 acres of sandy arroyos, sandstone, and rolling terrain that make up the open public lands of the Glade Run. This BLM recreation area located at the edge of Farmington is a playground for outdoor adventure seekers of all kinds. The Glade is also home to the Brown Springs Camp Grounds and is host to the W.E. Rock Grand Nationals.
